Fantastic, Brilliant Day

Technically it was yesterday, but since I'm finding it difficult to sleep I thought I shouuld write my Blog. I can't say that my day started off in the best way possible. Edwin had brought some Polish food for me to try - and it was so tasty. Kept repeating on me, but one can't have everything. Anyway when I woke yesterday morning I felt horrendously sick - like I was going to vomit any minute. I struggled to get to the show to put my items on display and felt horrendous all the time I was doing it. Even going down to the show I felt awful. Every bump and hole in the road exacerbated the churning in my gut. I'd already sent my poems in so they were already on display in the library. So I set up my jewellery (earrings below.) and then we left because Edwin had to get to work.

So, Mum was running late and we didn't get away until about 2:30 (by which time the exhibits had been judged) and I showed Mum what I'd done - and I admit, I was a little hacked off that not only had I NOT been placed - I hadn't even been commended. I had really made an effort with my jewellery and I was a bit annoyed. Anyway, I went through to the library - and truthfully I didn't expect much. Well I was absolutely stunned when I saw that my poem 'Bede's Bird' had been awarded First Place. One of the organizers came up to me and said, 'You will be at the main presentation won't you?' and I said that yes I'd be there at 4 pm and she nodded.

I certainly didn't think I'd actually won anything more physical than a certificate and a little bit of cash. So Mum and I trundled up to the Civic Centre just as Gavin Williamson announced the winner of the cup for Literature. I was absolutely stunned when they read out my name. It was absolutely brilliant. I had to hand the cup back to be engraved but once that's done I can hold onto it for about 11 months. It's amazing. What made it a hundred times better was that Mum then took us all out to the nearby pub for supper [at this point in time at least I was hungry again.] Finally persuaded Edwin to have some supper and we all sat outside and it was wonderful. A terrible start to the day that ended up being so brilliant! I will put up a photo of the cup for you all to see.

Such a great day. I shall take great pride in taking it down to my Creative Writing Group and showing off. I do find it very difficult to blow my own trumpet, to say to people - 'Yes, I am a very good poet. I am also a good writer.' It always feels like I'm boasting. Anyway, this ends todays blog for tonight.
